Training Programs

Apart from research, the training and support of students within the focus field of research. In this context, the international master course “integrative neuroscience” deserves special mentioning, as members of the research center were leading in the initiation and development of this course. Further core studies of the focus field of neurosciences consist are psychology (Magdeburg Model of Psychology Bachelor/Master), Human Medicine and Philosophy-Neurosciences-Cognition (Bachelor/Master). Furthermore, there is an export of teaching to the fields of visual computer sciences and bio-systems engineering.

Within the frame of graduate training, a special mention is due to the CBBS graduate program. Furthermore, there are graduate programs 2413 and 2408 and the SFB 854 is equipped with integrated post graduate programs that organize the theme-specific training of the PhD Students in the subprojects.

Furthermore, the international doctoral program for analysis, imaging and modeling of neuronal and inflammatory processes, ABINEP, should be mentioned. This international graduate school connects neurosciences and immunology in four main topics:

  • Neuroinflammation: Inflammatory processes in neurodegeneration,
  • Neurophysiology and computational modeling of neuronal networks,
  • Immunosenescence: Infection and immunity in the context of aging,
  • Human brain imaging for diagnosing neurocognitive disorders.

As a further means of well-structured PhD Student training, the Otto-von-Guericke Graduate Academy was called to life in 2010. It is a joint venture of all faculties to broker soft skills in interdisciplinary courses (i.e. writing and publishing papers and proposals, introduction to methodology of literature research, presentation of scientific results etc.). Members of Graduate Academy consist of the above-named graduate schools and all other structural but non-third-party-funded PhD training programs of the faculties. Every PhD student may attend these methodical courses.
