Bachelor / Master Psychology

logoThe Magdeburg Model of Psychology has been our directive for education and research at OvG University since 1996. Our focus is on neurosciences, which can be divided into clinical and cognitive neurosciences:

clinical neurosciences:

The consequences of diseases of the mind and brain are far-reaching. The exponential development in neurosciences allows for a new approach to these ailments. The knowledge of the processes of neuroplasticity and the interactions between genetic an environmental factors in generating normal or pathological behavior as well as the spatial and temporal representation of higher-tier brain functions and neuro-pharmacological aspects of generating and controlling behavior open up new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. These are the issues that are addressed in the specialized courses of clinical neurosciences.

cognitive neurosciences:

Methodological developments in non-invasive methods of investigating higher-tier brain functions in humans on one hand and conceptual developments of cognitive psychology and emotional psychology on the other have contributed to cognitive neurosciences becoming a distinct area of research. Taking into account the personnel and technological facilities available in Magdeburg (Research-MRIs of up to 7 Tesla, magnetoencephalograph, brain potential laboratories), there are ideal conditions for accessing this dynamic field of research here at OvGU. The educational goal of these courses is to allow students to form hypotheses on neural representation of cognitive and emotional processes in the human brain based on psychological models and allow them to test these hypotheses with the appropriate methods.
